Post-Botox Skin Care

You’re done with your Botox treatments and could not wait to see the results. Your cosmetic surgeon should give you a list of what to do before the results of your procedure become noticeable.

Even though there is hardly any downtime after Botox, the changes in your targeted areas usually take about two weeks. During that settling period, it is important that you heed the following advice:

1. This first advice is confusing. Some websites say that you can’t move muscles in the target areas of your face for 12 hours after the procedure is finished, while some other sites say that it is all right to practice squinting, frowning, and raising eyebrows after 2 hours. Both sides do agree that you do not message the injections sites for 12 hours. Please talk with your doctor about what to do as far as moving your facial muscles.
2. After the treatment, don’t bend over or lie down. You have to sit upright for at least four hours for the Botox to settle into the targeted sites.
3. Do not do strenuous exercise or yoga during the four-hour period.
4. Limit alcohol consumption to prevent dehydration during the two-week resting period. Drinking plenty of water will quicken the recovery process
5. Limit your sun exposure for at least two weeks. This includes no tanning or sunbathing.
6. Also do not use retinoids, alpha-hydroxy acids, and other harsh exfoliants on the face for two weeks.

After two weeks, the results of the Austin Botox should last at least 4 months. It may last longer if you do follow a healthy skin care regimen, like not drinking or smoking, limiting sun, and eating healthy foods. Between 3 to 4 months, the doctor will insist on a check-up to see how the facial muscles look when they are contracted and to see if you want to continue treatment.

It takes patience and a healthy regimen to appreciate the results.
