What to Expect During Treatment

Here’s what to expect when you visit Austin Aestheticsf or treatment. Before you come in for treatment some clinics recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Determining your treatment needs

Our medical staff will examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment. We may even take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment! Juvéderm™ injectable gel does not require an allergy test. Although anesthesia is not required, our medical staff may use topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first. Following the injection, our medical staff may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy. The injection itself usually takes only about fifteen minutes.

After the procedure

With Juvéderm™, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Our medical staff will tell you when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

Results

A facial begins with a thorough cleansing of the face with cotton pads or sponges and a product chosen for your skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature).

A skin analysis is then performed. The provider, who is usually an aesthetician, covers your eyes and looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp and a Woods lamp that reveals various skin conditions and gives her the information needed to customize the facial for the client.

This is followed by an exfoliation process using a mechanical or chemical defoliant. Mechanical exfoliation, usually a Microdermabrasion, will essentially remove the dead skin by a spray of small particles at a high speed. Some of the defoliants have a gritty texture and usually happens while a steam vapor is directed at your face. Some facials may use steam towels instead. Chemical peels can also be used as a defoliant and even in conjunction with a Microdermabrasion or by itself. The type of chemical peel is determined at the time of the skin

analysis by the aesthetician.

The next process is the extraction of blackheads or whiteheads if you want it and/or need it. This can cause broken capillaries and discoloration if done on sensitive skin, or done improperly. People have different pain tolerance for extractions. They can be uncomfortable, especially on thin or ruddy skin. However, the aesthetician will be aware of one’s pain tolerance and extract appropriately.

Facial massage using classic strokes to both relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles is performed by the aesthetician. This will help to increase the blood supply to the skin and facilitate the absorption of products.

A facial masque can be targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition.

At Austin Aesthetics, we apply toners and protective creams to include a sun screen at the end of the procedure. Most facials may take 30 to 60 minutes to complete depending upon the skin analysis and degree of pore problems.

Stem Cell Facials

At Austin Aesthetics, we offer stem cell facials. Organic, or natural products and cleaners are used before the live stem cells are applied. The stem cells, from an alternative source, will allow the transfer of young DNA to the older cells in the base of the epidermis. This results in the development of younger looking skin over a period of 28 days.

There are also other types of facials that are specific for the time of the year or degree of dryness or oiliness of the skin. These will consist of different products and may be sold under the name of a Pumpkin Facial and Peel, Valentines facial and peel, etc.

This product is known to very effectively add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). It also can be used around the eye area too. The eye area is typically the first area on the face to show aging so this product is great to address the look of sunken eyes or dark circles. Volume also can be achieved in the eyebrow area as well.

Austin Restylane treatment also helps to enhance lip area to increase the fullness of the lips as well as minimize the lines and wrinkles associated around the mouth.

This procedure should only be done by a licensed health care professional. The procedure time is approximately thirty minutes and the results achieved will be instant. Results for the Restylane treatment on average last six months.

As in any type of cosmetic procedure, some side effects could occur. However, this product is extremely safe and tolerated well by the body. Some side effects, though infrequent, could be redness, bruising or swelling around the infected area. If in the occasion that side effects are present, they typically only last a few days.
