A facial begins with a thorough cleansing of the face with cotton pads or sponges and a product chosen for your skin type (normal, dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature).

A skin analysis is then performed. The provider, who is usually an aesthetician, covers your eyes and looks at your skin through a brightly lit magnifying lamp and a Woods lamp that reveals various skin conditions and gives her the information needed to customize the facial for the client.

This is followed by an exfoliation process using a mechanical or chemical defoliant. Mechanical exfoliation, usually a Microdermabrasion, will essentially remove the dead skin by a spray of small particles at a high speed. Some of the defoliants have a gritty texture and usually happens while a steam vapor is directed at your face. Some facials may use steam towels instead. Chemical peels can also be used as a defoliant and even in conjunction with a Microdermabrasion or by itself. The type of chemical peel is determined at the time of the skin

analysis by the aesthetician.

The next process is the extraction of blackheads or whiteheads if you want it and/or need it. This can cause broken capillaries and discoloration if done on sensitive skin, or done improperly. People have different pain tolerance for extractions. They can be uncomfortable, especially on thin or ruddy skin. However, the aesthetician will be aware of one’s pain tolerance and extract appropriately.

Facial massage using classic strokes to both relax you and stimulate your skin and facial muscles is performed by the aesthetician. This will help to increase the blood supply to the skin and facilitate the absorption of products.

A facial masque can be targeted to your skin type (dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature) and condition.

At Austin Aesthetics, we apply toners and protective creams to include a sun screen at the end of the procedure. Most facials may take 30 to 60 minutes to complete depending upon the skin analysis and degree of pore problems.

Stem Cell Facials

At Austin Aesthetics, we offer stem cell facials. Organic, or natural products and cleaners are used before the live stem cells are applied. The stem cells, from an alternative source, will allow the transfer of young DNA to the older cells in the base of the epidermis. This results in the development of younger looking skin over a period of 28 days.

There are also other types of facials that are specific for the time of the year or degree of dryness or oiliness of the skin. These will consist of different products and may be sold under the name of a Pumpkin Facial and Peel, Valentines facial and peel, etc.

This product is known to very effectively add volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
